MI-28NE
ATTACK HELICOPTER
The Mi-28NE helicopter is designed to engage enemy armored and soft-skinned vehicles, personnel and low-speed air targets during day and night, provide cover and close support for ground forces, as well as train and improve helicopter crew skills.
  • higher flight performance and maneuverability due to successful design solutions and the installation of powerful VK-2500-01 engines
  • round-the-clock operation and automatic nap-of-the-earth flight through equipping the helicopter with an advanced avionics system
  • enhanced capability to engage air targets through integration of air-to-air missiles into the armament suite
  • effective protection of the helicopter from MANPADS fitted with multispectral seekers through the addition of a state-of-the-art defensive aids suite (DAS)
Advantages
The main advantages of the Mi-28NE helicopter include:
  • 1
Round-the-clock all-weather operational capability through the addition of an electro-optical target sight system (TSS) and a radar to the avionics suite
  • 2
Effective protection of the helicopter against hostile MANPADS fitted with multispectral seekers by equipping it with a defensive aids suite (DAS)
  • 3
Advanced capability against air targets through the addition of the Verba missile to the armament suite
  • 4
Automatic nap-of-the-earth flight through equipping the helicopter with a radar and a pilot's flight station
  • 5
High-accuracy navigation through the use of inertial and satellite navigation systems, high air/ground target search efficiency through the introduction of an airborne radar into the avionics suite
  • 6
Outdoor storage and operation in extreme climatic conditions at temperatures from -60 °С to +60 °С
  • 7
Operation in dust conditions without affecting the service life of its main components (engines, rotor hub)

  • 8
Independent ground operations (capability to repeatedly start engines without ground power units)
  • 9
High reliability and maintainability in case of combat damages

Range
The Mi-28NE is equipped with two powerful VK-2500-01 turboshaft engines. These engines ensure efficient operation of the helicopter in high altitude and high temperature conditions, increase flight and landing safety with one engine inoperative.

Crew
The Mi-28NE has a two-man crew:
  • Pilot (pilot-in-command)
    1
  • The helicopter control system includes a dual mechanical control system installed in the forward and rear cockpits, which allows control of the helicopter from both cockpits, with controls moving in sync in the cockpits.
  • Pilot/weapons operator
    1
  • The cockpit instrumentation is based on the use of MFDs and effectively provides the crew with all the necessary flight, navigation and combat information, as well as information on the operational status of the helicopter systems. Each cockpit has two MFDs.
The Mi-28NE cockpit instrumentation corresponds to the modern glass cockpit concept.

Armament
The helicopter carries a mix of lethal weapons, which includes guided missiles, unguided rockets and a flexible gun mount.

Guided missiles include:
16
Ataka anti-tank guided missiles
8
Khrizantema anti-tank guided missiles
4
Verba air-to-air guided missiles
Unguided weapons include:

Up to 4 pods with 122 mm S-13 unguided aircraft rockets and up to 4 pods with 80 mm S-8 unguided aircraft rockets, 50-500 kg air bombs.

Onboard systems
The avionics suite provides round-the-clock all-weather operation of the helicopter and includes: a radar, night vision goggles, an integrated flight system, a pilot's round-the-clock night vision imaging system, a round-the-clock target sight system and a precision navigation system.

The helicopter's radar and и electro-optical equipment can detect tank-type targets at a range of:
25
Airborne radar

12-15
Airborne radar

The helicopter is equipped with a state-of-the-art airborne defensive aids system (DAS), which detects threats and protects the helicopter from attacks by surface-to-air and air-to-air missiles. The DAS includes radar and laser warning systems, a missile launch detection system, a control system, a laser-based electro-optical countermeasures system, and a chaff/flare dispenser.
